The Lord's Rose by Dwayne Edwards

A seed was planted in the soil
What does the soil represent?
It represents your fears
Anything that angers you
Things you dislike
Things that bring you down
Things that make you sad, hurt or cry
Your past thoughts
Or thoughts of the future
Things that are not truly of God
And you the seed, are in the midst of this
Surrounded by these things
Covered, suffocated and enclosed
At times you may have felt there was no escape
Like your life was destined to stay this way
Destined to forever be, a seed stuck beneath the soil
But no
Because your seed was planted by no ordinary Gardner
But in fact the greatest Gardner of all time
For when He placed you into the soil
He done it with the utmost care
He knew just the right amount of soil to place over you
Just enough so that you would not be overwhelmed
Or even crushed under its pressure
His hands
Forever there
Watering you
Taking care of you
And waiting, patiently waiting.
But not all seeds grow some remain the same
Stuck underneath the soil refusing to grow
Too stubborn to accept change
From a seed into something so much more beautiful
Others are surrounded by soil so thick and hard
That even the Gardner’s nourishment cannot reach them
But you, you are different
For His nourishment did reach you
And although you may have been stubborn at first
You humbled yourself
Willing and ready to accept change
And lo behold!
From out of the soil rose the most beautiful rose
A rose that radiated
With a delicate light that compared to no other
When the Gardner saw this He was filled with the utmost joy
And as He watered you, your light continued to shine
So bright that it was clear for others to see
But just as any other rose
You are not without imperfections
Your thorns
For some, like a jagged edge
Others as sharp as blades
Stopping people from not only seeing
But truly feeling how very beautiful you are
Instead they turn their hand away
Afraid of being pricked or hurt by your thorns
Your thorns represent your unwillingness to let go
Hurt that you still carry deep in your soul
Thoughts for people that you are still unable to forgive
But yet and still the Gardner looks after you
His hands accustomed to thorns of all shapes and sizes
Some even bigger than yours!
He gently tends to you
Carefully He takes his time to attend to each thorn individually
Not moving onto the next
Until the current one has been fully removed
So gently and carefully He does this
That sometimes it may take days, months, even years!
But when He is finished
And in His time only
They will truly be gone.
But even with thorns you blossom!
Your bud produces petals of the utmost beauty and splendour
That, with the Gardner’s nourishment and care, shine
You have blossomed into a beautiful rose!
With petals that can be touched, admired, and bring comfort to all
And when they fall to the floor
They decompose and become part of the soil
But the new soil will be better then what was once there
Your petals are the word of God
Now as the Gardner has finished tending to you
He steps away for a moment
And admires what is before Him.
A beautiful thorn less rose that stands high
With a light that radiates from it so brightly
And there you stay
Under the Gardner’s watchful gaze
A beautiful rose
Until that day where your strength fades
And you start to whither and die
But even after death the Gardner does not abandon you
No
Wit the utmost care He removes you from the soil
And places you in a pot of gold
He then takes you and places you in His own personal garden
Where the body of the rose withers
But the beautiful light that its petals produce will continue to shine
And they shall shine on
Forever more
